Grant Recipients
The Kenneth A. Picerne Foundation is pleased to announce the 2007 Senior Artist Project grant recipients. Click on each artist’s name below for a brief biography and a description of each project. The foundation will accept applications for the 2008 Senior Artist Project beginning January 2nd. The application deadline is March 31, 2008.
Sue Diaz – Professional Writer, Author, and Freelance Journalist
Project: Writing workshops for service men & women who are home from deployment at the Veteran’s Center in San Diego
Tama Dumlao – Multi Media Artist, Expressive Art Therapist
Project: Develop stories told through painting, bookmaking, and creating wooden wall pieces (retablos) with at risk youth at Project Reach in Oceanside
Joel Harris – Mixed Media Artist and Illustrator
Project: Art expression for brain trauma and rehabilitation patients including injured service men and women at Scripps Brain Injury and Rehabilitation Facility in Encinitas
Lonnie Hewitt – Award Winning Writer, Lyricist, and Playwright
Project: Writing, rehearsal, and performance of a play with a diverse group of women on the far side of fifty in Oceanside.
Doris Keats – Visual Artist, Author, Poet and Educator
Project: Art and poetry for children who are victims of domestic violence and living in Community Resource Center Programs in North San Diego County
Jane LaFazio – Mixed Media Artist and Teaching Artist
Project: Hands-on art-based projects focused on art, natural sciences, and international culture for low-income youth at Escondido Children’s Museum
Lucie Lukens – Accomplished Knit Artist
Project: Individual and group knitting instruction for low-income seniors the Vista Senior Center
Timmaris McDowell – Songwriter, Recording Artist and Music Instructor
Project: Voice lessons, music theory, and performing basics for low-income youth at the Boys and Girls Club of Encinitas
Marian Norris – Visual Artist and Art Educator
Project: Painting & fine art for low-income youth at the Boys and Girls Club of San Clemente
Dyana Preti – Professional Music Educator, Owner of First Steps in Music
Project: Music and voice lessons for homeless families who are residents in a transitional living center called Solutions for Change in Vista.
Frank Ritenour – Professional Photographer, Owner Ritenour’s Photography
Project: Photography classes for low-income youth at the Boys and Girls Club of San Clemente.
Sarah Stead – Mixed Media Artist, Clothing Designer, Owner Sara Artwear
Project: Art history and textile art projects with seniors living in three long-term rehabilitative facilities in Encinitas
Rebecca Toft Van Dyke – Visual Artist and Art Educator, Founder of The Arts Project
Project: Visual arts with children who have been removed from home because of abuse and neglect living at Casa de Amparo in Oceanside
Ron Woskow – Professional Musician and Music Educator
Project: Ukulele lessons and singing with low-income seniors at San Marcos Senior Center
