Participant Biographies and Project Descriptions

Randi Winters
Randi has worked as a professional artist and elementary school teacher for the past twenty years. Randi’s project will give her the opportunity to bring together her interests in art, teaching, the Hispanic community, and counseling psychology. Randi has led several art workshops on watercolor, art and spirituality, creativity, grief recovery and visual journaling. In addition, she holds a bilingual teaching credential in Spanish. This makes her especially qualified for the project she has proposed, and to offer support to participants who speak Spanish as their primary language.

Randi is teaching visual and expressive art to Hispanic families and young people ranging in age from eight to eighteen at CREER, Comunidad y Familia. CREER is a grassroots nonprofit community organization founded within, and serving, the densely populated Hispanic area of San Juan Capistrano near the downtown soccer field. Randi believes that expressive arts is a fun, non-threatening way to develop creativity and artistic skills as well as gain personal insight. Her classes will use a variety of techniques including paint, collage, visual journaling, and clay. Randi’s classes for the CREER youth are held in a location close to their homes. These visual and expressive art classes fill a great need for Hispanic youth in San Juan Capistrano, not only for art but also as a positive outlet and after school activity.
