Participant Biographies and Project Descriptions
Yvonne Harguindeguy
Yvonne believes dance is a potent vehicle for empowering and healing people. She also feels that exposing young people to the arts will create future supporters of the arts in our communities. Yvonne has been a professional modern dancer with the Jean Isaacs, San Diego Dance Theater for over 25 years. She has been a dance teacher, choreographer, and director for San Diego Community Colleges, Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts, as well as various other schools and academies. Yvonne holds a B.A. in Ergonomics, a California Teaching Credential, and an M.A. in Physical Education/Exercise Physiology.
Yvonne is teaching modern dance lessons to under served students attending Capri and Paul Ecke schools in Encinitas. Classes will culminate in a performance of student choreographed short dances. After school, she provides interested students with expanded training and rehearsals. Aside from developing dance skills, Yvonne expects everyone at the school will observe students with improved self confidence, motivation, academic achievement, and classroom behavior.
