The following criteria are used to determine eligibility for the Social Entrepreneurial Fund:
-
The nonprofit has at least a six-year successful track record as a 501(c)3. This track record includes demonstrated financial sustainability. We do not provide "seed" funding for new or early-stage business plans or ideas.
-
The organization has demonstrated the ability to scale or be replicated on a regional or national level.
-
The organization is in a growth stage where capacity building rather than model building is the major challenge. There must be a strong desire to invest time, energy, and focus in coaching, management consultation, and organizational development.
-
The organization must be independent and autonomous. The applicant is the primary decision maker for the organization's development and management. We do not fund startup programs within larger established organizations. We also do not fund the expansion or development of an existing organization that is past its startup phase.
-
The organization takes an innovative approach that directly contributes to human development through the arts, education, mental health, social services, or health care.
-
The entrepreneur must have demonstrated the organizational and fundraising ability, and passion, to lead a national program.
-
The program has a presence in Southern California or the potential for a presence in the development plans.
-
We are a highly engaged funder. The entrepreneur should have a demonstrated interest and ability to collaborate with a funder in a meaningful way.
-
Applicants must be US citizens.
-
We do not fund research projects, lobbying activities, or faith-based initiatives promoting a specific faith or religious institution.
-
We do not fund organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, creed, age, gender, or sexual orientation in policy or practice.
